Aveda Beauty School Student Wins Beacon Competition!
Crystal Moore, a student from the Aveda Institute San Antonio, demonstrated a strong competitive streak and put forth her best efforts as a beauty school professional, securing her spot in the 2010 Beacon program. Nearly 600 students applied, with 100 selected to participate. This is the second consecutive year that the Aveda Institute San Antonio has had Beacon winners.
Beacon is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for cosmetology students to spend two full days with masters of the salon industry. With a focus on business skills, marketing and leadership, the Beacon program is designed to encourage career development and professional growth. The 2010 program will be held July 17 – 19 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature some of the industry's' best. There will be breakout sessions hosted by Michael Baker, Geno Stampora, JC Penney and others.
The Beacon application process involves students creating a professional resume, portfolio of their work and a professional marketing piece. The portfolio must consist of three before and after looks, while the professional marketing piece allows applicants to show off their creative marketing skills. All the applications were judged by a Professional Beauty Association (PBA) Beacon Committee, which includes very prominent and successful salon and spa owners, distributors and manufacturers. Winning entries were selected based on creativity, presentation and content.
The Beacon program is held in conjunction with PBS Beauty Week, North American's largest, most inclusive beauty event, offering unlimited networking, education, and professional growth opportunities to all sectors of the beauty industry. This week of beauty features PBA symposium, the North American Hairstyling Awards, Best Practice Club, City of Hope and BEACON. PBS Beauty Week is produced by the Professional Beauty Association in Cooperation with Cosmoprof North America.
